Baku is not simply the capital city, political and economic and living center of Azerbaijan. Today, Baku is the city that inspires development of Azerbaijan, preserves its past and is the warranty of its bright future. This bustling part of Absheron peninsula differs with its ancient history and unique samples of architecture. Rich archeological findings, monuments, holy places are the witness of the city’s past. Its rich natural recourses constantly have kept it in the focus of attention. It is enough to point out Palace of Shirvanshah and oil-gas deposits and we can clearly observe role of Baku in historical past as well as its role in foundation of base of today’s economical potential of our country.
Baku, located on the shores of the Caspian Sea with 2 million populations, with every passing day and broadening opportunities grows fast and becomes the worldwide center. Hundreds of events hosting here every year serve for fortification of its international status, historical stand and increase confidence in its brilliant future. Undoubtedly, sport has its place and undeniable role in achievement of the mentioned standing. Sport just of its peculiarity as mass involvement and large opportunities has considerable dominance over other fields of activities, works. Development of sport, its role in the history of the country is not measured only by accomplishments attained by the athletes. Azerbaijan has become also one of the sports centres in the world. This is due equally to our sports successes but also to the high-level organizing of the world and European championships and prestigious international events in our country.
In following years some prestigious sports events will be organized in our country. I’d like to notice the 1st European Olympic Games in 2015, the 4th Islamic Solidarity Games in 2017.
The Head of the State at the same time the president of the Azerbaijan National Olympic Committee Mr.Ilham Aliyev attaches a special importance to the development of sports in Azerbaijan Republic.
The AIPS 77th Congress to take place in Baku in April, 2014 is not the first international media event organized in Azerbaijan. Baku’s first event with the participation of sports journalists was a meeting of the Executive Committee of AIPS’s European and European Sports Media Union in October, 2011. In 2012 Baku hosted the meeting of AIPS Executive Committee.
In September – October of 2012 with the state support of Azerbaijan the Young Reporters Programme has been conducted in Baku. In the AIPS Programme 20 journalists under age of 19-15 from 5 continents – Africa, Asia, America, Oceania and Europe and also 10 young journalists from Azerbaijan have been involved.
And this time the AIPS’s highest event – Congress will be organized in our capital. The organizing committee set up for this is trying to hold a high-level 77th Congress and I am confident that in the year of the 90th anniversary of this organiztion the AIPS’s 77th congress will be held in Baku successfully.
Probable the majority of the congress participants will visit Azerbaijan for the first. We are confident that on 1 May 2014 when they come back home they will have indelible impressions about Azerbaijan and its magnificent capital Baku.
